'Service Above Self' for Earl L. Vandermeulen Interact Club

From Port Jefferson Schools:Cold weekend weather didn’t deter Port Jefferson School District’s Earl L. Vandermeulen High School’s Interact Club from taking part in cleanup efforts at Camp Pa-Qua- Tuck in Center Moriches.
The students, rakes in hands, worked collaboratively to help ready the facilities and grounds for next year’s participants. The camp’s mission is to enable children and young adults with physical or developmental disabilities to enjoy a safe and quality program of summertime camping, recreation and education. The Interact Club students were accompanied by adviser Deidre Filippi and members of the Rotary Club of Port Jefferson and Rocky Point Rotarians in their annual efforts to assist the greater community through service projects.
“This community service activity offers students the opportunity to see how combining their effort with their peers and members of the community can result in very positive outcomes,” said Filippi. “Interact Club members are learning at an early age that they can positively influence people around them and that is truly
rewarding to see.”
