With an Olive Press Workshop on Sunday, Chabad Hebrew School students in Port Washington assembled an old fashioned centrifuge, squeezed the olives in the press, and separated the pure oil from the crude mixture.
Students then created wicks out of raw cotton and lit the Menorah, just as in days gone by. At the family carnival that followed the workshop, we had fun injecting donuts with delicious fillings, eating hot latkes, and playing dreidel. As one parent said, “seeing the process of making pure olive oil brings the Chanukah story alive in the most fascinating way!”
