It's Full Steam Ahead for Manorhaven Beach Pool
Minor modifications are being made for the pool.
The streets are covered with snow, but pool-goers have reason to look forward to summer, according to the Town of North Hempstead. Officials say renovations for will be completed before the start of the summer 2011 season.
However, there will be some minor modifications added to the project amounting to an additional $15,000, said North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman. The Town adopted a resolution at the Jan. 4 board meeting authorizing an amendment to an agreement with Islandia-based Stalco Contracting for improvements to the pool and staff area.
“This is a change order to further improve the pool for the start of the upcoming summer season,” Kaiman said. “The old pool is out and now new doors and windows are being installed. We broke ground the beginning of this month and sometime in the spring the Town will have a groundbreaking ceremony.”

The modifications include window replacements to the staff area that were not included in the original design, removal of a small amount of asbestos that was discovered in an existing structure, and the addition of conduits to accommodate telecommunications wiring.
Peter Wilk, a spokesman for Stalco, said that the project is moving forward.

"The Manorhaven Pool Complex project is proceeding on schedule, despite the recent inclement weather,” Wilk said.
The fee schedule will not be set until several months before the pool's grand re-opening, a Town spokesman said.
