📰 News we're reading

1. Man stabbed to death during clash on Queens street (nydailynews.com) — A 29-year-old man was fatally stabbed early Saturday on Jamaica Avenue in Jamaica, marking the fourth stabbing in Queens in just four days. Other recent attacks include a deadly domestic stabbing-suicide attempt in Far Rockaway, a fatal J train assault near Woodhaven Blvd., and a nonfatal stabbing in Long Island City, even as borough homicides are down overall this year.

2. Fundraiser for Darwin Lojano by Carlos Lojano : Support for Mesias Lojano's Funeral (gofundme.com) — A Queens family is seeking help after their father, Mesias Lojano, was killed in a violent incident on the J train in Queens on September 30. His four children have launched a fundraiser to cover funeral and burial costs, asking neighbors to donate, share the page, or keep the family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

3. NYC turns up the heat on housing holdouts (therealdeal.com) — Queens neighborhoods including Corona, Elmhurst, Bayside, Douglaston, Queens Village and more are now on a fast-track review path for certain affordable housing projects, shortening approvals to 90 days and bypassing City Council votes. Supporters say this spreads housing growth more fairly, while some local officials worry about losing control over development decisions in their districts.

4. NYC deli names sandwich after Bruce Blakeman as he vows to bring down sky-high cost of lunch (amedpost.com) — A Flushing, Queens deli has created "The Blakeman" turkey hero to honor Republican gubernatorial hopeful Bruce Blakeman, who stopped by Friday to spotlight rising lunch prices. During his Queens visit, he blamed energy and operating costs for expensive sandwiches and promised to lower everyday costs statewide if elected, while Democrats pushed back on his economic message.
