Police: 90-Year-Old Beloved Barber Struck, Killed By Drunk Driver
The crash occurred in Jamesport on Tuesday night.
A 90-year-old Jamesport man is dead and a Farmingville woman is charged with DWI following a crash in Jamesport Tuesday night, Riverhead Town Police said.
Riverhead police said they responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Main Road at 7:16 p.m.
Police found that George J. Kurovics had been struck while walking on Main Road by a 2007 Mercedes driven by 65-year-old Diane O. O‘Neill, police said.

Officers at the scene determined that O’Neill was intoxicated and she was placed under arrest, police said.
Despite efforts by EMS personnel, Kurovics died at the scene of the accident, according to police.

O’Neill is a teacher at Southold Junior Senior High School, according to News 12.
O’Neill was processed at the Riverhead Police Department, where she was charged with DWI. She was held pending arraignment, police said.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office will review the incident and determine if additional charges will be filed, police said.
Kurovics was a beloved barber in Rocky Point, where he ran George’s Rocky Point Barber Shop since 1948.
“When I first opened up I was the only barber shop between Port Jefferson and Riverhead open year-round,” Kurovics told Patch in 2012.
