Police: Lindenhurst Man Broke Into 2 Homes, Robbed Woman of Her Car

Police make arrest Tuesday.

A Lindenhurst man arrested on Tuesday faces multiple charges stemming from incidents Monday and Tuesday.

According to police, First Precinct officers responded to 448 North Fulton Avenue in Lindenhurst after a 911 call from a neighbor, who saw a suspicious male climb the fence and enter the rear yard at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

First Precinct Commanding Officer Inspector Gerard Gigante arrived at the scene and observed the man entering the rear of the house, police said.

The man then fled on foot with Gigante pursuing, police said.

After a brief foot pursuit and with the assistance of arriving officers and detectives the suspect, Michael Novak, was taken into custody without incident, police said.

After an investigation by First Squad detectives it was determined that Novak was responsible for burglarizing 566 South Broadway Avenue in Lindenhurst on Monday, police said.

Police said in that case, Novak, armed with a knife, confronted a house cleaner, and stole cash, her cellphone and her car.

Novak, 25, of South Walnut Street, was charged with second degree attempted burglary for Tuesday’s incident, and first degree robbery and first degree burglary for Monday’s incident.

Novak is being held overnight at the First Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
