UPDATE: Saturday, Jan. 23 at 7:20 p.m.
Greenburgh Superintendent Paul Feiner sent the following message:
YOU WON’T BE ARRESTED IF YOU DRIVE ON GREENBURGH ROADS
Earlier today Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a travel ban on local and state roads in NYC and Long Island. Those violating the law could be arrested.
I received some e mails and phone calls from residents who want to know if they will be arrested if they drive on Greenburgh roads. The answer is no. We have not issued a travel ban on Greenburgh roads. Our highway crews have been out since 3 AM plowing the roads. I spoke with the Police Chief, Chris McNerney. He indicated that although our crews have been doing a great job plowing the roads - the snow is coming down very heavy - 3 inches an hour. So, after our crews finish plowing the streets it gets slippery very fast. It takes time for the crews to re-plow the road after they just left.
Most Greenburgh residents have used good judgment in staying off the roads. We have not had any major accident reports and there have been no reported outages so far. We have not issued a local state of emergency. And-- I have not been inundated with complaints.
A big thank you to our snow emergency first responders for doing a great job and working so hard. Hopefully, there won’t be any major problems tonight and tomorrow.
Will keep you informed. Feel free to reach out to me with any additional concerns. My cell phone is 438-1343. My home phone: 478-1219. My e mail: pfeiner@greenburghny.com.

The Village of Hastings-on-Hudson is advising residents that all alternate side of the road parking rules are in effect for snow removal operations.
See the village website for more information.

UPDATE: Sat., Jan. 23, 1 p.m.
Supervisor Paul Feiner issued an alert from the Town of Greenburgh.
PLEASE REMOVE CARS FROM STREET -- MAKES IT HARDER TO CLEAR ROADS. ROADS ARE SLIPPERY. YOU SHOULD STAY INDOORS IF POSSIBLE. OUR CREWS ARE OUT BUT IT’S GOING TO BE A LONG DAY, WITH MORE SNOW COMING DOWN ALL DAY LONG.
Spent the AM updating the list of snow angel volunteers. Expect to receive a lot of calls tomorrow asking for help with snow removal.
If you or your son/daughter are interested in helping neighbors remove snow please provide me with following information:
Name...phone...e mail...neighborhoods they are willing to help out at...do they expect to get paid or are they willing to volunteer if the person is on a fixed income...when can they help (weekend only or during week)...do they have a shovel or snow blower?
Are snow angels interested in only helping those who have medical needs (last year, for example I shoveled the driveway of two frail elderly residents who needed a path so food could be delivered to them or so emergency personnel could get them out of the house if there was a medical issue) or are they willing to help anyone? Please e mail me at pfeiner@greenburghny.com

It appears we’ll be going to sleep Saturday to snow falling in the Rivertowns.
(Too bad the football playoffs weren’t on Saturday, it would have been a perfect day for it with many of us snowed in.)
As of 11AM, the National Weather Service predicted accumulation of 13-21 inches locally.
See related story: HV Storm Update.
Dealing with power issues, Con Ed advises:
DO NOT touch a fallen power line or any other electrical equipment. Keep children and pets away from all fallen wires. If you see downed power lines or fallen wires please contact ConEd immediately at 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633).
If a power line falls on a car or vehicle you’re in, don’t get out, and don’t touch anything outside it. The vehicle’s rubber tires will provide insulation and protect you until help arrives. Wait for police, fire, or emergency service workers.
DO NOT touch or try to fix any power lines, electrical equipment, or wires on your own. If you notice a problem, call 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633).
