City Of Rye Officials Have Ordered Flood-Prone Areas To Evacuate & Announced Road Closures

RYE, NY — Low-lying areas along Blind Brook should evacuate immediately and go to higher ground, according to Rye officials.

The City of Rye Police Department said that only emergency vehicles are allowed on the roads and residents should avoid any unnecessary travel.

Anyone needing short-term emergency shelter can go to Rye Recreation at 281 Midland Avenue or the Rye Golf Club Administration Building at 330 Boston Post Road.

"The police department will be removing cars in public flood-prone areas, including the Highland parking lot at the owner's expense," public safety officials said in an alert Friday afternoon. "Move your cars now."

Parking enforcement is suspended throughout the city until further notice.

In addition, the City of Rye Police Department told residents "If you do not need to be on the road, stay home," and posted the following road closures:

  • Area of Midland Ave./Peck Ave.
  • Midland closed from Peck to Cottage
  • Milton closed from Playland Parkway to Rye Beach Ave.
  • Elm closed from car parks to Theodore Fremd
  • Locust closed from Fremd to Car Park 1
  • Grace Church is passable near Port Chester border
  • Highland Hall area of Wappanocca Ave.
  • Highland Rd. area of Purchase St.
  • Park Ave. at Harrison line
  • Theodore Fremd Ave. in area of Elm Pl.
  • Orchard Ave. in the area of Laurel St.
