• Jim Ruddle, a newsman of 'old school' values and talent, dies at 94 (chicagotribune.com) — Longtime television newsman Jim Ruddle, who eventually settled in Rye and wrote a young adult novel there, has died in town at age 94 of natural causes. Colleagues remember the former Chicago anchor for his fairness, powerful writing, and "old school" approach to journalism, while his family recalls an adventurous sailor, storyteller and devoted grandfather.

• Chamber Launches New Chili Cook-Off Format (ryerecord.com) — Rye's Chamber of Commerce is spinning its 12th Chili Cook-Off into a standalone fundraiser on October 4 at the Rye Recreation building, benefiting the Chamber's scholarship fund. The Chamber is also replacing Mistletoe Magic with a revamped Holiday Stroll on November 19, aiming to draw residents downtown for shopping, dining, and festive entertainment.
