Felony Leandra’s Law DWI After Thruway Crash In Rye: NYSP

The driver is also facing charges of reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child after being arrested at the hospital.

RYE, NY – An early morning one-car crash involving a suspected drunken driver on Saturday was all the more frightening because there was a 9-year-old child in the vehicle, New York State Police officials said.

At around 1 a.m., state police responded to a report of a crash with injuries on I-287 in Rye. Troopers located a 2019 Dodge Ram pick-up truck approximately 80 feet off the roadway down an earth embankment.

Troopers said the driver, Jonathan Juarez from Paterson, New Jersey, was intoxicated while traveling with his 9-year-old child.

Both 25-year-old Juarez and the child were transported by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The child was turned over to a relative at the hospital.

While at Westchester Medical Center, Juarez voluntarily provided a blood test, according to police. He was arrested shortly after for felony aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.
