RYE, NY — Rye police are warning neighbors about suspicious solicitors knocking on doors claiming to be contractors.

"We want to warn our residents about purported 'contractors' going door-to-door to find work," police said in the Nov. 6 post. "These contractors will knock on your door and tell you that they just happened to be in the neighborhood and noticed that you need your driveway sealed, new steps, or any other work you can think of."

Police say the contractors will then ask for a large upfront payment and once you pay, you will never see them again or other times, they will start the work without your authorization in an attempt to pressure you into giving them the job.
