Rye Reaches Settlement for $475,000 in Police Brutality Case

Andrew Caspi suffered several injuries from the incident and was arrested on a charge of assault, among others.

Rye officials have reached a settlement with resident Andrew Caspi for close to half a million dollars in an alleged police brutality incident from over 10 years ago.

The City Council unanimously approved the $475,000 settlement Wednesday night, ending a federal lawsuit in the matter. But The Journal News reports that not all parties necessarily agreed to the deal.

“We’ve made it clear to the city that we’re not happy,” Attorney Andrew Quinn, who represents one of the officers, told The Journal News. “A settlement implies that there was some wrongdoing (on the part) of the officers. We wanted to try the case.”
