UPDATE: Elderly Woman Killed in Sayville Fire Identified

The fire was reported at the Sunrise Village on Revere Drive early Sunday morning.

SAYVILLE, N.Y. - Police have identified the elderly woman killed in a fire at the Sunrise Village retirement community early Sunday morning.

Authorities responded to Revere Drive in the Sunrise Village community after a 911 caller reported a fire at approximately 4:20 a.m. An elderly woman, identified as Elizabeth Sclafani, 90, was found deceased after the fire was extinguished. No other injuries were reported.

A neighboring unit, that was vacant, was destroyed by the fire, police said. A second unit was damaged by the fire and the residents were able to escape unharmed.

Firefighters from the Sayville, Bayport, Blue Point, Holbrook, Bohemia and West Sayville Fire Departments responded. One Sayville firefighter was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The Red Cross also responded to assist displaced residents.

At this point, detectives believe the fire is non-criminal in nature.
