Ferreira Powers Sayville To Rout Over Harborfields
In 40-13 win, senior quarterback throws for more than 200 yards and three TDs.
Sayville's prolific aerial attack struck again this week, as Steven Ferreira and cruised to a mid-week victory over Harborfields (2-3) on Thursday, 40-13.
"We’ve been doing it all year," said Sayville head coach Robert Hoss. "We’re kind of a pass-to-run team; most teams are run-to-pass. We were clicking on all cylinders. Our receivers did a great job getting open and Steven did a great job finding them."
, who stood tall in the pocket all afternoon, completed 14 of his 19 passing attempts for 258 yards and three touchdowns en route to building a 30-6 halftime lead. He also ran one in from five yards out in the third quarter. He led Sayville to touchdowns on each of their first four drives, putting the game well out of reach early.

"It’s his fourth year," Hoss said. "He doesn’t get rattled in the pocket. When we do have a breakdown up front, he flushes out. The part that makes it special is the receivers aren’t just running downfield with their eyes closed. When they see the quarterback under pressure and duress, they come back to the ball."
The opening kickoff set the tone for the game as Sayville's Tom Hannan returned the game's first play 97 yards for a touchdown. He also caught six passes for 128 yards and a touchdown.

"All week we were very concerned about an onside kick," Hoss added. "They onside kick quite a bit. Kicking it to Hannan isn’t a good recipe for most teams. He’s our most explosive kid, so it was a great way to set the tone."
After Harborfields (2-3) failed to move the ball, Ferreira moved Sayville down the field quickly and John Haggart broke loose for a 34-yard touchdown run. He later added another touchdown run of 11 yards.
"John’s been solid all year," Hoss said. "He’s been nursing an injury all year. He’s a real, strong powerful kid. You know what you’re going to get with him."
Ferreira also found Tom Dieckhoff in the back of the end zone on fourth and goal from the Harborfields 12-yard line late in the first quarter to combat the only scoring drive the Tornadoes had put together.
"We try to get the connections down with all the receivers," said Ferreira, who completed passes to six different players. "I trust these guys with everything. I know they’re going to be there on the routes, and I hit them when they’re open."
