Phantoms Scoreboard: Football Puts Up 60, Girls Soccer Wins A Pair

Week of Oct. 10-16.

Football: The Phantoms broke out of their early-season offensive struggles on Saturday, blowing Southampton's doors off in a , their first of the season. After leading just 7-6 to start the second quarter, Bayport scored 33 unanswered points before halftime to take a 40-6 lead into the break.

The Phantoms had three players rush for over 50 yards, including Josh Shaw, who ran for 86 and two touchdowns on just four carries. Brendan Bateman threw for a touchdown on his only completion, a 24-yard strike to Matt McKinnon, and also ran for another as well.

Boys Soccer: Unlike the football team, the boys soccer team was unable to get on the scoreboard in two contests this week. They suffered losses of 1-0, at home to Glenn on Tuesday, and 3-0 on Thursday at home against East Hampton. Due to rescheduled rain outs, the Phantoms will have a busy three-game week coming up, which will end on Friday at second-place Westhampton.

Girls Soccer: The girls soccer team notched two big victories over a pair of League VII's weaker teams this week. Rebecca Raber had a goal and an assist in a 2-0 blanking of Babylon on Wednesday and Nicole Copping scored twice and added an assist in a 5-0 victory over Hampton Bays on Friday afternoon. Erica Friel and Mariah Valva split time in both games, combining for a pair of clean sheets. The victories allowed the girls to supplant Shoreham-Wading River and move back into first place in the division.

Girls Tennis: advanced to the quarterfinals of the Division III Individual Championships on Saturday. As the tournament's top seed, she'll continue to earn her second berth in the finals in as many years.
