Volunteers Take The Court at Tennis Fundraiser

Bayport-Blue Point Community Tennis Association holds tournament fundraiser to benefit organization.

A mixed doubles open tournament fundraiser drew a crowd of tennis enthusiasts out to the Bayport-Blue Point High School tennis courts in support of

Board member Dave Fallon said proceeds from the event go directly toward providing tennis instruction for children in the community.

"The tennis courts are at the max players, so it was a successful fundraiser," Fallon said. "It lets us offer high quality tennis instruction that's very inexpensive.”

This past weekend’s tournament consisted of a two-day mixed doubles round robin with 16 teams. Each team played at least three matches, ending with semi-finals and final matches.

High school junior Fiona Stickney plays on the school’s tennis team and joined some of her teammates for the tournament. Stickney has her hopes set on playing college tennis, but credits the association with her early progress in the sport.

β€œI have played with them since I was little," Stickney said. "This is where I learned to play tennis. I'm looking forward to the competition today.”

The Community Tennis Association holds several fundraising events throughout the year to provide affordable children's tennis programs. There's a scholarship program for children who cannot afford the fees.
