Flanagan Replaces Skelos as Senate Majority Leader
Local senator was elected to the leadership position Monday.

State Sen. John Flanagan, of East Northport, is the State Senate’s new majority leader.
According to Capital New York, Flanagan edged out John DeFrancisco, of Syracuse, in a vote among Republicans Monday following the resignation of Sen. Dean Skelos, who surrendered to federal authorities last week to face corruption charges.
“We come out of this unified and we are ready to do the people’s business,” Flanagan told reporters after his election, Capital New York reported.
