11 Accidents Sparked By Storm In Southampton: Supervisor

BREAKING: No injuries were reported, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman said.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A few hours after declaring a snow emergency in Southampton, Supervisor Jay Schneiderman updated the public on conditions around town.

According to Schneiderman, as of 3 p.m., moderate snow was still falling, with 10 to 12 inches of accumulation around town.

Visibility had increased to .75 miles, he said; the temperature was 26 degrees, with a northwest wind at 27 miles per hour.

Plows were continuing to clear roadways, Schneiderman said, adding, "Only main streets are passable at this time. Crews are attempting to open secondary roads —they are still impassable for two-wheel drive vehicles."

Hazardous, icy conditions will continue as temperatures drop, he said.

In addition, as of 3 p.m., there were 180 residents around town without power, with PSEG working to restore scattered outages.

In total, there were 11 storm related motor vehicle accidents, with no reported injuries, Schneiderman said.

"Downed trees are causing roadway blockages and power outages throughout the town," he added.
