Southampton Town Police Chief Robert Pearce said the area has markings for gas lines, because that stretch of Montauk Highway is being prepared for re-construction, but a sub-contractor of Rosemer construction, Island Pavement Cutting Company, accidentally hit the line.

No one was injured, officials said.
