I'm Innocent, Says Estranged Husband of Missing Sagaponack Woman

The woman was reported missing over a month ago.

Over one month after the disappearance of 40-year-old Sagaponack resident Lilia Aucapina, her estranged husband spoke out professing his innocence.

Carlos Aucapina, 50, was in jail for about a week after he was accused of violating an order of protection, made by his wife, after she was reported missing at about 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 10.

“I’m worried, especially as the days pass by. It’s getting hard for me to keep peace,” he told ABC7. “I hope that she’s OK. That’s my prayers. That’s my wishes.”

The morning Lilia went missing, at about 9 a.m., she was spotted at Meeting House Lane Medical Practice arguing with her husband.

He told ABC7 that he last saw her at the parking lot at the medical center, saying that she was with another man.

He was arrested by both Southampton and East Hampton Town Police for violating an order of protection made against him by his wife.

The couple was in the process of getting a divorce when the order of protection was filed that prevented Carlos from making contact or speaking to his wife.

However, the two did not officially file for divorce, the order of protection was filed because Lilia ”wanted space” and was unsure of her feelings for Carlos, he told 27east.

Colin Astarita, Carlos’ attorney, stated that Carlos might have not been the last person to see Lilia because when he left the medical practice that day, her male friend, Angel Tejada, called the police, according to 27east.

Tejada, who Carlos previously believed to have an affair with Lilia, told police that he and Lilia had walked to the medical practice to pick up her car she had left overnight, when Carlos called Lilia’s brother, Carlos Parra, who also confronted her, 27east reports.

Astarita told 27east that he believes Carlos violated the order to find proof of the potential affair.

During the period he was in jail, he told 27east that he “thought a lot about his wife” and believes she is all right.

According to ABC7, Carlos said that Lilia, a mother of two, texted her 21-year-old son the day she went missing that appeared to read: “Remember that always I love you.”

However, Carlos does not believe that his wife committed suicide, one of the potential meanings of the message, due to the fact that she is a “strong person in her beliefs,” and said that the day she went missing she was supposed to go with her brother to a doctor’s appointment in New York City, according to 27east.

He took a lie detector test at the Suffolk County Police headquarters on Monday so that police will spend their time and energy searching for Lilia rather than investigating him, according to ABC7.
