Man Caught After Robbing Sag Harbor Variety Store: Police

The man was apprehended nearby, police said.

SAG HARBOR, NY - A Rockland County man was caught after he robbed the Sag Harbor Variety Store, police said.

According to New York State Police, a burglary was reported to the Sag Harbor Police Department on Saturday by a store employee.

The Sag Harbor Police Department notified state police and requested forensic and investigative assistance, police said.

While working in conjunction with Sag Harbor police, information was developed which led to the arrest of Patrick J. Helmer of Rockland County, who was located in close proximity to the crime scene, police said.

Helmer was charged with burglary in the third degree, a felony, criminal mischief in the third degree, a felony, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, a misdemeanor, possession of burglary tools, a misdemeanor, and petty larceny, misdemeanor, police said.

Helmer was held pending arraignment, police said.
