Man Cuffed After Driving While on Drugs on Flanders Road: Police

The man was found with cocaine and marijuana, police said.

FLANDERS, NY - A Riverhead man was busted Sunday after he was caught driving while impaired by drugs and in possession of cocaine and marijuana, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, Selvin Carrera-Cabrera, 22, was arrested at 3:25 a.m. after members of the department's Community Response Unit saw him driving on Flanders Road without headlights.

After a traffic stop, the sergeant noticed a "strong odor of marijuana," police said. Carrera-Cabrera admitted to smoking marijuana just prior to driving, police said. He was arrested and, during the search, was found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine, police said.

He was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation and an equipment violation, police said.

Carrera-Cabrera was held overnight for morning arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court, police said.
