Man With Shotgun Involved in 4-Hour Standoff with Police to Be Arraigned: DA
The man barricaded himself in his home before surrendering last Friday night, police said.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY - A Hampton Bays man arrested by Southampton police last Friday night after a four-hour standoff on Re Court will be arraigned in Riverhead on an indictment on Thursday, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.
Scott E. Saunders, 49, of Hampton Bays pointed a shotgun at police and barricaded himself in his home before surrendering peacefully to a large contingent of law enforcement personnel who responded to the scene including the Southampton Town Police Emergency Services Unit, the Southampton Town Police hostage negotiators, the East Hampton Emergency Services Unit, Southampton Village Police, New York State Police and the Riverhead Town Police K- 9 unit, the DA said.
Saunders pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of menacing a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, aggravated harassment in the second degree, and criminal mischief in the fourth degree, the DA said.

He is incarcerated in the county jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.
State Supreme Court Justice William Condon will unseal the indictment. The court calendar will be called at 9:30 am..

According to Southampton Town Police, a call came in at 6 p.m. about a man, armed with a shotgun, who was “acting in a tumultuous manner” at a home on Re Court in Hampton Bays.
All members of the residence vacated the residence prior to the arrival of the police.
Hampton Bays Ambulance responded and took the suspect to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment.
