Montauk Highway Reopened After Hazmat Incident: Cops

A portion of Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton was shut down due to a possible hazmat incident, police say.

BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY — A portion of Montauk Highway was reopened Tuesday afternoon after being shut down in both directions due to a "possible hazmat incident," according to Southampton Town Police.

According to Southampton Town Police Lt. Susan Ralph, a call came in at 1:35 p.m. about a man in medical distress; Bridgehampton Ambulance was called and transported him to an area hospital.

Officers noticed a "potential hazardous situation" in the victim's vehicle and asked that the Bridgehampton Fire Department and Southampton Town's hazmat team respond, Ralph said.
