Town Supervisor, County Executive Laud Newly Completed Repaving, Sidewalk Restoration in Hampton Bays
The project cost $1.77 million, according to Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY - With the summer season in full swing, it was a happy day in Hampton Bays as Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone joined Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman to tour the newly completed repaving and sidewalk restoration project on Montauk Highway.
Business owners and community members also turned out for the press event on Monday.
“This was a project that I was involved with as a county legislator,” said Schneiderman said. “I am happy as town supervisor to see that it is completed. This is just one of many steps we are taking to help revitalize the downtown area of Hampton Bays."

The construction of Good Ground Park is also currently underway, Schneiderman said.
Improvements by the Suffolk County Department of Public Works on County Road 80, or Montauk Highway, from New York State Route 24 to Bittersweet Drive, included CR 80, milling and resurfacing the roadway, new pavement markings, drainage repair and improvement, repair of sidewalks and upgrades to meet ADA and rebuilding of traffic signals, including adding a new left turn arrow at Ponquogue Avenue.

Patchogue's Rosemar Contracting Inc. handled the project, which cost $1.77 million, including Sstate funding. The project began in September of 2015 and was substantially complete by May, 2016.
“This is just the start of revitalizing Hampton Bays,” said Bellone. “We know it may just look like an upgrade, but we know it goes deeper than that. This newly repaved road will lead to the rebirth of this area, and downtown Hampton Bays will become more pedestrian friendly with additional sidewalks that welcome foot traffic. More residents and visitors will want to shop in the downtown area and take a stroll to the new park. I look forward to coming back here when this park opens and celebrating with all of you.”
Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming, also onhand, worked hard to see the project completed while she served on the Southampton town board. “I am delighted to have the opportunity to recognize this repaving and sidewalk project as another step toward the economic revitalization of Hampton Bays,” she said. “It is my hope that this is the continued commitment of the xounty to work closely with Southampton Town on this critically important goal.”
