Woman Caught With Crack Struggles with Police: Cops

RIVERSIDE, NY - A 30-year-old Riverhead woman was cuffed after she struggled with police who found her with crack, authorities said.

According to Southampton Town Police, members of the police department's Community Response Unit were patrolling Riverside on Monday at 5:30 p.m. when they saw a man and woman "acting suspiciously."

An officer approached the two and noticed the female subject attempting to conceal a crack pipe in her hand and discarding a quantity of what appeared to be crack cocaine onto the ground, police said.

The officer tried to retrieve the discarded crack and the woman, Rasheeda Brown, tried to destroy it by stepping on it, police said.

After a brief struggle with the officer, Brown was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, tampering with physical evidence, and resisting arrest, police said.

Brown was held overnight at Southampton Town Police headquarters and arraigned the following day at justice court, police said.
