Woman Found Dead in North Haven of Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound: Police

SOUTHAMPTON, NY - A woman was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in North Haven Monday, according to Southampton Town Police.

According to Southampton Town Police Det. Sgt. Lisa Costa, Margaret Jean Burke, 83, was found dead at her Payne Avenue home, the victim of a gunshot wound.

The death was apparently a suicide, according to Costa.

According to Costa, another death by gunshot took place at the house on Labor Day in 2008, when Burke's mother, Jessie Burke, 100, died after being shot in the back of the head and "murdered."
