Brewster, Southeast Coronavirus Updates

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY —The new coronavirus outbreak in New York and across the nation is having vast impacts in Putnam County, including the closure of schools, most businesses and houses of worship. Restaurants have had to limit business to take-out and delivery.

"Please remember to check on your elderly friends and neighbors or those who may be housebound," Brewster village officials said.

The number of cases of the illness caused by the virus, known as COVID-19, continue to rise and additional measures continue to be announced.

As of Friday, there were 106 positive cases of coronavirus in Putnam County, including 17 confirmed cases in Southeast.

There were 44,635 cases in New York as of Friday morning, and 6,481 people were hospitalized.

New York State has been put on PAUSE: all non-essential workers are directed to work from home and everyone has been required to maintain a 6-foot distance from others in public. Non-essential gatherings of individuals of any size for any reason (e.g. parties, celebrations or other social events) are canceled. Sick individuals should not leave their home unless to receive medical care and only after a telehealth visit to determine if leaving the home is in the best interest of their health.

SCHOOLS

All schools in New York will remain closed through at least April 15 in response to the new coronavirus outbreak, state officials said.

In the Brewster schools, Digital Distance Learning began March 25. The Brewster school district's Child Nutrition staff developed a plan for meal services to continue for families in need, beginning March 23.

GOVERNMENT

Coronavirus: Putnam County Offers Residents 2-1-1

The Southeast Town E-Waste drop off scheduled for April 4 is cancelled. The next drop off date is tentatively scheduled for May 2 depending on the status of the outbreak.

The Brewster Village Office will remain operating but closed to the public. Residents mail utility, parking permit, budget billing, or any other payments to the office at 50 Main Street, Brewster, or call the office from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to submit payments by credit card.

The village police department and DPW will remain open to ensure the safety of residents and protection and preservation of streets, public buildings, water supply, and infrastructure.

By order of the New York Office of Court Administration, the Village of Brewster Court remains closed until April 30. Those with court dates within this time will be contacted by mail regarding rescheduling.

The Putnam County Legislature will hold all meetings virtually, by conference call or video conference, until further notice. The meetings will be livestreamed on the web so that the public can view them in real time. The audio webcast link for each meeting will be posted prior to the start of the meeting on the Legislature’s page on the Putnam County website. The next meeting is April 5.
