PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — Louis Weber IV, who killed his father and then set fire to his dad's mobile home to cover up the crime, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and arson charges on Monday.

Weber IV had been charged with second-degree murder nine months after firefighters found Louis Weber III dead after putting out a blaze that consumed the trailer.

On Nov. 4, 2019, firefighters and members of law enforcement responded to a fire at 11 Second St. in Philipstown where they observed a residence engulfed in flames.

After putting out the fire, they discovered the body of the 72-year-old. Although it appeared that he had died in the fire, investigators determined that Weber III had sustained blunt force injuries, died before the blaze began, and that the fire was intentionally set using an accelerant poured on the victim’s body, Putnam County District Attorney Robert V. Tendy said.

The probe was conducted by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department with assistance from the DA's Office and the NYS Office of Fire Prevention.

Weber IV is scheduled to be sentenced on his guilty plea to first-degree manslaughter and third-degree arson by County Court Judge Joseph J. Spofford, Jr. on Oct. 26.

He is expected to receive an aggregate sentence of 20 years in state prison with 5 years post-release supervision.

Tendy thanked the numerous members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office who worked
on this case, specifically Senior Investigator John Kerwick and Investigator Shaun Menton, and
Greg Amyot of the New York State Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services.

"This was a thoroughly professional investigation. An amazing job by everyone,” Tendy said.

The case was prosecuted by First Assistant District Attorney Larry Glasser and Assistant District Attorney Breanne Smith.
