State Police ID Man Killed By Deputies Responding To Abduction Report
According to the preliminary investigation, a call reporting domestic violence and an apparent abduction came into Kent town police Jan. 10.
PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — The State Police have positively identified the man shot by deputies who were responding to a report of an abduction and domestic violence as Christopher T. Torres, 34, of Carmel.

According to the preliminary investigation, a call reporting domestic violence and an apparent abduction came into Kent town police at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday. The information described a vehicle with a suspect and victim, a Putnam County Sheriff's Office spokesman told Patch. Sheriff’s deputies who were assisting Kent police located the car in the adjacent town of Southeast, on Fields Corner Road near Pugsley Road. They saw a man stabbing a woman with a knife.

Two deputies fired their weapons at the man, according to the attorney general's office. Police recovered a knife at the scene.
The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition with multiple stab wounds, police said Tuesday.

The man died despite lifesaving efforts.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office notified and requested the New York State Police lead the investigation into the reported domestic violence and abduction. The New York Attorney General's Office opened a probe into the shooting per state law.
