Poll: Should Taco Bell Open in Wantagh?

Residents spoke out against the plan at a recent meeting. What do you think?

A proposed drive-through fast food chain has some Wantagh residents up in arms with concerns over traffic hazards.

At a recent Town of Hempstead Board of Appeals meeting, multiple people spoke out against a proposal to built a Taco Bell on Wantagh Avenue at the site of a former Chase Bank.

It’s going to destroy traffic and make for more dangerous pedestrian walking,” said Victor Arena during the meeting, according to the Wantagh Herald-Citizen.

Those who are in favor of the plan say it will be good for the local economy and fill a vacant building on the predominantly commercial street, according to the report.

We’re hoping to get rid of an underutilized building,” said John Farrell, an attorney representing Taco Bell’s owner, Yum Brands.
