Snow to Create Travel Nightmare Wednesday, Hit the Road Tuesday or Thursday if Possible

The latest forecast is not a good one for Thanksgiving travelers.

Wantagh and Seaford should be spared the worst of an approaching coastal storm, but one thing has become quite clear: Wednesday is not a day you want to be traveling.

The latest forecast calls for 1-4 inches of snow to fall across a large swath of Long Island on Wednesday into early Thanksgiving morning, according to the National Weather Service. Not exactly a major snow storm, but with millions of people set to jump in cars, planes and trains for the holiday, the timing of the storm couldn’t be any worse.

“The advice is to get out of town prior to Wednesday, or perhaps travel on Thanksgiving Day itself when the snow would abate by then,” AAA New York spokesman Robert Sinclair said, according to a New York Post report.

The National Weather Service says there is still uncertainty as to the track of the storm, but there is a “low probability” of 6 or more inches of snow falling on Long Island by Thanksgiving morning.

Rain or a mix of wet snow and rain will slow travel Wednesday afternoon in the region, but the worst conditions will be toward evening into Wednesday night as snow falls, according to AccuWeather.com.
