Construction On Washington Heights Food Hall Nears: Report
The North End Food Market, located on Broadway near West 183rd Street, is expected to open this Fall.
WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Construction on a 6,000-square-foot food hall slated to open later this year in Washington Heights is set to begin at the end of the month, according to a report.
Blogger Harlem Bespoke first reported that Filtered Coffee on the corner of Broadway and West 183rd Street will close at the end of July to make way for construction work on the North End Market. The food market — which will be Washington Heights' first — is expected to open in Fall 2017, according to its website.
When opened the North End Market will resemble Chelsea Market, Harlem Bespoke reported. The food hall will feature seven vendor kiosks featuring "everything from sustainable fair-trade coffee, to craft beer, to juicy tacos, to organic bbq and burgers and more," according to its website. The two confirmed vendors are Filtered Coffee and Mess Hall — a craft beer and cocktail bar.

The new food hall promises a "hip design" by Harlem-based design firm NADA, according to the North End Market website. When open the space will seek to appeal to both Washington Heights newcomers and long-time residents as well as visitors from other neighborhoods.
"Our venue, part eatery and part assembly, is located in Washington Heights at the tip of Manhattan, which is surrounded by scenic rivers and lush parks," the food hall's website says. "North End is located closely to the A express train and George Washington Bridge, making us easily accessible to both the local and nearby communities. Here the community will gather to grab a bite, drink a pint, or get some work done in a diverse, sustainable, and well-curated atmosphere. North End will serve as a hip and contemporary gathering place for millennials and old-timers alike."
