INWOOD, NY — A Yonkers man has been charged with attempted rape after forcing a woman into a side alley in Inwood last week, police said.
Andre Gilmore, 33, was arrested on Monday in Downtown Manhattan and charged with attempted rape, burglary and a criminal sex act for the April 22 assault, police said. Gilmore is from Yonkers, records show.
He is accused of knocking on the front vestibule door of a 32-year-old woman's apartment building near Sherman Avenue and Academy Street after she had just went inside around 8:20 p.m., police said. The woman opened the door, thinking Gilmore lived in the building, and started walking to her apartment, police said.
