Washington Heights' 'Golden Girls' Cafe Closes
Rue La Rue Café has closed after opening on Broadway in February.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A Washington Heights cafe that was themed entirely after the show "Golden Girls" has closed after a nearly year-long run, its owner announced.
Rue La Rue Café, which was located on Broadway between West 187th and 189th streets, served up its last cups of coffee and slices of cheesecake Sunday, owner Michael LaRue said in a Facebook post. The business opened in February.
"Rue La Rue Café is closed. We are going to process the lessons learned during the rehearsal period this last year and, hopefully, continue to provide this special experience to guests from around the world," LaRue said.

The cafe had been one of Washington Heights' most-anticipated business openings of 2017. Fans of "Golden Girls" came uptown from all over the city to check out the cafe's authentic decorations. LaRue was close friends of "Golden Girls" star Rue McClanahan and many of her personal items — including an Emmy — were put on display. LaRue inherited the memorabilia when McClanahan — who portrayed the feisty Blanche Devereaux on the show — died in 2010, DNAinfo reported when the cafe opened.
LaRue did not hint at when he might bring the business back.
