Center for Creative Retirement-Week of September 16

The Center for Creative Retirement (CCR) began its 33rd year on Monday September 9. Retirees seeking an intellectual challenge and social engagement will find in the program just what they are seeking.

CCR meets Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays in the LIU Building on the campus of Suffolk Community College in Riverhead.

Each day brings a fresh perspective on some topic that members have chosen as part of the syllabus. CCR volunteers research and present the topics. As a member, you can look forward to a rich tapestry of new facts and perspectives.

On Monday September 16, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., sit in on an introduction to CCR's course, "Advertising and Consumerism in the U.S.A."  The semester-long course hopes to answer the question: How do advertisers get people to buy their products?  In the afternoon, from noon to 1:00 p.m., hear from a clinical psychologist about the psychology of advertising.

Come to Tuesday's morning session, ready to laugh.  Hear an introduction to this semester's course on comic performers, which will be followed by a presentation on the immortal comedy team, Burns and Allen.  The afternoon will present the life of Director Billy Wilder whose films will be shown in a film series this fall.

Thursday begins the Billy Wilder film series.  Starting at 10 a.m., see the 1953 blockbuster film, "Stalag 17," starring William Holden and Otto Preminger.  In a discussion of the movie, learn about behind-the-scene facts that will increase your appreciation.

CCR classes are held in the LIU Building on the campus of Suffolk Community College, 121 Speonk-Riverhead Road, Riverhead, NY. Our web site: http://www.liu.edu/Riverhead/CE/CCR/About.

Membership fees continue to be very reasonable.
