Hochman, 52, shot both girls, Alissa, 17, and Deanna, 13, in the head while they slept early Saturday, then killed the family’s three dogs and then himself, according to Marraccini. The chief added that the note made it clear that the acts were premeditated.
While no one who knew Hochman personally or professionally saw any indication that he might commit such a crime, in mid-January he and his wife had discussed the possibility of separating. Anamarie, 50, and eldest daughter Samantha, 22, were on a trip to the Mohegan Sun Casino when the killings occurred.
A couple of days before, the Hochman’s argued over an $80 cellphone bill, an incident Anamarie reported to the police. She did not want it pursued, and had reported the incident on the advice of a friend, according to Marraccini. She did not report any physical violence or threats.
“This is a difficult struggle for the family, for the police officers that were on the scene, for the community,” Marracini said. “And as always, the Harrison community will rise and be there to stand behind the family and the people that are in need.”
