Controlling Bamboo Up For Discussion In Somers
The invasive species cannot be bought or planted in the state of New York.

SOMERS, NY — The Town of Somers is looking into whether it should rein in the planting of bamboo plants in the community. Two types of the plant are on the state's prohibited invasive species list and can't be sold, introduced or grown in the state. However, it's up to individual municipalities to control what's already in the ground.
Legislation that Somers is considering will not allow bamboo to be replanted or replaced, tapinto.net said.
If enacted, the town would have to notify all property owners. A fine of $250 per day is also being proposed.
