Senator Pete Harckham, 40th Senate District, presented a proclamation honoring The Stephanie Crispinelli Fund to her parents and fund founders, Lin and Lenny Crispinelli, on Sunday at Reis Park in Somers.

In 2010, 19-year-old Stephanie lost her life in the Haiti Earthquake while on the "Journey of Hope" mission with two professors and 11 classmates from Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. Stephanie was in Haiti doing what she enjoyed most: working and caring for the poorest of the poor.

Her parents, Lin and Lenny, created the fund to honor their late daughter, and carry on the spirit of her commitment to helping poor, hungry, and disadvantaged children around the globe. They are building their ninth school this year in Jamaica - a country that Stephanie loved and which she had visited on several occasions. In fact, Stephanie kept a journal while on one of her mission trips to Jamaica and wrote, "I went to Jamaica to help the poor and the poor ended up helping me.”
