Lakeland Keeps Spending Flat for 2016-17

District officials will bring a budget to voters that's under the tax cap, which is under 1 percent.

The Lakeland Board of Education will bring a budget plan to voters at the current spending level.

  • Proposed Budget Total for 2016-17: $161,174,165
  • Budget to Budget Change: 0 percent
  • Districtwide tax levy change: +0.5 percent

The spending plan is below the state tax cap, which set Lakeland's allowable tax levy increase maximum to 0.82 percent for the coming year.

The district's enrollment is expected to decrease slightly, to 5,750 from 5,875.

The budget includes facilities repairs and improvements including:

  • Replace track at Walter Panas High School
  • Replace Gym B floor at Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School
  • Renovate Walter Panas High School Performing Arts Center
  • Air Conditioning
  • Lakeland High School auditorium and library
  • Lakeland Copper Beech MS Cafeteria A

A public hearing on the budget is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 3 at the Administration Building in Shrub Oak. The budget and trustee vote is May 17.
