Proud of Yorktown, Excited About Our Future

Yorktown residents moved here because of the many assets of our town: great schools, scenic beauty, and a wonderful family-oriented community. I know I did, when in 1984, my family chose to live in Yorktown. I am so glad to see our current Town Board working diligently to maintain these priorities, while at the same time, address both current and future needs.

I find it so hypercritical to listen to Town Republicans as they criticize these efforts to address critical issues while we plan for a sustainable future.

When the Republicans controlled the Yorktown Town Board, our town faced many of these same issues. Then, however, they shamefully kicked our challenges, including such issues as business development, traffic congestion or affordable housing, down the road.

Finally, Supervisor Gilbert has had the leadership to put in place an Economic Redevelopment Committee to thoughtfully determine what the town must do to maintain its status as a desirable and affordable place for people to live in Northern Westchester. That’s why I, and most of the people I know, live here.

We have so much to be proud of:

-Great public schools and town recreation

-Parks, swimming, trails, nature preserves and other outdoor, family-oriented activities.

-Housing options…anything from modest single-family ranches to condominiums, senior living, historical homes and estates.

-A growing variety of restaurants, including Asian, Indian, diners, steak houses, Italian and now Greek and many other choices.

-A local stage with theatrical productions, an historical museum, fitness centers and a wide variety of sports and associated sports venues.

-New developments continue to appear including an International School for Autism, a Lowe’s and plans for additional rental housing, medical practices and restaurants.

And there’s more to come as Yorktown intelligently evaluates its needs and opportunities for the 21st century.

Yorktown does not have to overdevelop like the Route 6 corridor going through Peekskill and Cortlandt Manor. We can continue to develop prudently, avoid further traffic congestion and maintain an image as a family-oriented town.

Many left Yonkers, the Bronx and other congested towns to live in beautiful Yorktown! Yorktown is for People!
