Solar Energy Discount Program for Somers

Residents and business owners can learn more at an upcoming workshop in Chappaqua.

Solarize Westchester has selected Somers and New Castle to participate in a solar discount program that makes installing solar electric systems simpler and more affordable for their residents and businesses.

Solarize Somers-New Castle program will launch with a workshop from 7-8:30 pm Oct. 26 at the New Castle Town Hall Assembly Room at 200 South Greely Ave. in Chappaqua.

Here’s how it works:

  • Solarize Somers-New Castle encourages increased adoption of small-scale solar electricity systems by offering lower installation costs through economies of scale. Group discounts offered by a pre-selected, qualified solar contractor are coupled with extensive community outreach and education to create awareness and build interest.
  • A clear end date motivates residents to act.
  • Residents and businesses who sign up for solar installations by March 7, 2016 will be able to take advantage of group rates significantly below market prices—and the more people who sign up, the lower the price will be for everyone—even the first to enroll!

“We are excited about seeing more solar panels installed throughout New Castle, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and creating a greener world for future generations,” New Castle Town Supervisor Robert Greenstein said in a prepared statement.

Solarize Somers-New Castle is part of Round 2 of the Solarize Westchester Campaign, partnering with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) under Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s NY-Sun initiative, which is a $1 billion investment in solar power through 2023 to significantly expand solar installations across the State and to ultimately transform New York’s solar industry so it becomes self-sustaining. The four Round 1 campaigns of Solarize Westchester exceeded their combined goal, with 200 residential contracts and approximately 10 commercial contracts.

After a thorough pre-qualification and competitive application process, representatives of Somers-New Castle with the assistance of Solarize Westchester selected Direct Energy Solar as the designated solar contractor for Solarize Somers-New Castle.
