YORKTOWN, NY — With the approach of the 250th birthday of the United States in 2026, the Yorktown Landmarks Preservation Commission is looking to develop ways to boost tourism in the town.

One way to do that, especially in light of the upcoming semiquincentennial, is using an app that would generate what is called "heritage tourism" in the town, Yorktown News reported.

During an Oct. 10 meeting of the commission, Constance Kehoe, director of RW250, the website that is building awareness and appreciation for Westchester's Revolutionary Era history, cited the importance economically of heritage tourism around the country.

She talked about some of the activities planned by RW250, including tours of historic routes on smartphone apps, interactive apps and battle reenactments, that could bring tourists and their pocketbooks to the area.
