1. NC: Four arrested in Asheville armed robbery case (wyff4.com) — Asheville police arrested two 19-year-olds and two juveniles after an armed robbery and assault on Erskine Street, recovering three firearms, including a stolen gun and one with a full-auto switch. The adults are being held without bond in Buncombe County, while the juveniles are charged as adults and in secured custody. Anyone with information is urged to contact Asheville Police at (828) 252-1110. 
2. Several laid off as LEAF Global Arts fights to stay operational (wlos.com) — Asheville-based LEAF Global Arts has laid off fewer than 15 employees as it struggles with post-pandemic finances and losses from Hurricane Helene canceling its fall festival. Leaders say the downtown Market and Eagle streets space will remain open for now while they explore a possible partnership and work to keep LEAF's arts and community mission alive.
3. City Council delays fixes to 'broken' bus system • Asheville Watchdog (avlwatchdog.org) — Asheville City Council has delayed a key vote on overhauling the Asheville Rides Transit system, leaving riders waiting for fixes to what leaders call a "broken" but increasingly expensive network. The story details proposed route changes, cost pressures, and how cuts could affect vulnerable residents who rely on buses to reach jobs, MAHEC, Social Security, and other essential services.
4. Women's Soccer Starts Road Swing at UNC Asheville (etsubucs.com) — UNC Asheville's women's soccer team hosts ETSU at Greenwood Soccer Field on Sunday, Aug. 23, with kickoff at 2 p.m. in Asheville.
