1. River Arts District builds momentum 2 years after Helene (wlos.com) — Asheville's River Arts District is bouncing back nearly two years after Helene, with artists reopening studios, planning a new Creative Campus, and turning flood marks into community art. Local visitors can look forward to November's RADfest, including a free LaZoom shuttle from downtown Asheville, aimed at boosting artist support heading into winter.
   

2. USTA North Carolina Serve Tennis - Programming / Course (usta.com) — Adult beginners in Asheville can sign up now for a six‑session Try Play tennis program at Aston Park Tennis Center on Hilliard Avenue, running weekday lunchtimes from October 6–22. The USTA North Carolina course focuses on building confidence in real match play, with clear rules for refunds or transfers if plans change at least a week before it starts.
   

3. Asheville City Council considers prioritizing Helene-related homelessness needs (wlos.com) — Asheville officials are weighing a major shift in $4.7 million in federal housing funds to prioritize people who became homeless after Tropical Storm Helene. The Asheville Regional Housing Consortium's proposal would expand services, change referral processes, and needs City Council approval Oct. 13. Residents can email or mail feedback directly to the city's Community Development Division.
   

4. Asheville approves $1.4M contract to rewrite development regulations (ncconstructionnews.com) — Asheville City Council has approved a $1.403 million contract to overhaul the city's comprehensive plan and rewrite development regulations, including the Unified Development Ordinance, with a focus on post-Helene recovery and resilience. Funded largely by disaster recovery and stormwater dollars, the multi‑year project will guide future housing, land use, and infrastructure standards through at least 2028. Residents can expect updated rules to shape how and where the city grows.
   

5. Two years after Helene, is WNC ready for another storm? (citizen-times.com) — Western North Carolina, including the Asheville area, is still rebuilding from Tropical Storm Helene's devastating 2024 floods, with major roads, bridges and public facilities not yet fully restored. A Citizen Times reporter reflects on survivors' ongoing struggles and warns that another major storm could strike before the region's $60 billion recovery is complete, testing local infrastructure and families once again.
