Asheville may run short of money to cover all who need homes rebuilt post-Helene (newsobserver.com) — Asheville families rebuilding after Helene may not all receive enough funding, even though the city has added millions to its single-family repair program and linked residents to the state's Renew NC aid. With hundreds of homes destroyed or heavily damaged across Buncombe County, officials warn current federal and local allocations may still fall short of covering every eligible household.
   

2. Gas prices in Asheville area surge, averaging $4.10 per gallon: GasBuddy (wlos.com) — Drivers around Asheville are paying steep prices at the pump, with average gas costs hitting $4.10 per gallon across the metro area, well above last month and last year. Prices within the city now range from $3.89 to $4.60, and diesel has climbed even higher. The spike is tied to global instability and Middle East shipping disruptions.
   

3. Pisgah installs additional solar projects for Asheville community housing developer (solarpowerworldonline.com) — Affordable housing communities in Asheville are getting greener and more cost-efficient as Pisgah Energy installs new solar arrays at Mountain Housing Opportunities' Star Point Apartments and Lakeshore Villas. The systems will cut operating costs, support long-term affordability, and reduce the community's carbon footprint. Funded partly by a major philanthropic gift, the projects expand MHO's renewable energy portfolio across six local properties.
   

4. NC Voter Mobilization Tour Visits Asheville (theurbannews.com) — Asheville voters are being urged to turn out for the midterms at a voter mobilization rally with Bishop William J. Barber II on Oct. 1 at Land of the Sky United Church of Christ. Organizers will share details about an Oct. 22 march to the polls ending at the Wesley Grant Center, currently the only early-voting site near downtown. The tour emphasizes protecting access to the ballot for working families.
