2. NC 101 closed in Beaufort for culvert and sewer line work (wnct.com) — If you drive NC 101 through Beaufort, plan for delays this week. The highway is closed in both directions between W. Beaufort Road and the NC 101/Live Oak intersection for culvert and sewer work through Monday, May 18. Detours use Turner Street and Live Oak Street, so expect heavier traffic in those areas and allow extra travel time.

5. Six fire departments battle Newport mobile home blaze, knocked down in 15 minutes (wcti12.com) — Firefighters from Beaufort joined five other departments Tuesday to quickly knock down a mobile home blaze in Newport, which was already being demolished after an earlier fire. Morehead City Fire-EMS says the fire was controlled in about 15 minutes, no injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation.
