New Historical Village In Chesapeake Opens To The Public (thenewjournalandguide.com) — Chesapeake residents now have a new destination at the Historical Village at the Dismal Swamp, open to the public on Glencoe Street along the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail. The site highlights Indigenous, enslaved, and emancipated communities, featuring the restored Cornland School, a Grand Gallery, and exhibits on maroon communities and the Underground Railroad, with more educational spaces and restorations planned.
   

2. Gov. Spanberger announces $30M investment from Defense Maritime Solutions in Chesapeake (13newsnow.com) — Defense Maritime Solutions is investing more than $30 million to expand its Chesapeake operations, bringing 32 new jobs and new manufacturing of Wärtsilä marine engines to the city. Local and state leaders say the project will boost Chesapeake’s role in defense manufacturing, strengthen domestic shipbuilding supply chains, and deepen the region’s reputation as a national defense hub.
   

3. Chesapeake gives MEB General Contractors $225,000 grant to expand (pilotonline.com) — Chesapeake City Council has approved a $225,000 economic development grant to help MEB General Contractors expand its longtime headquarters in Cavalier Industrial Park. The project includes new office space, at least 200 additional full-time jobs averaging $70,000, and an estimated $225,000 boost in city tax revenue over three years, with payments tied to specific performance milestones.
   

4. Chesapeake City Council approves Hampton Roads' first animal cruelty registry (13newsnow.com) — Chesapeake City Council has unanimously approved Hampton Roads’ first public animal cruelty registry, which will be run by Chesapeake Police and accessible through the city website. The database will help shelters, rescues, and residents screen potential adopters or foster families for felony animal cruelty convictions, and could eventually support a broader regional or statewide system.
   

5. Ottawa Redblacks release defensive back Jalen Jones (bgmsportstrax.com) — A professional football defensive back from Chesapeake Jalen Jones, has been released by the CFL’s Ottawa Redblacks after a brief stint on their practice squad. The 23-year-old standout, who attended Washington Commanders rookie minicamp, built an impressive college career at William & Mary with top national defensive honors and numerous interceptions and pass breakups.
