1. Roadwork underway across Greenville (reflector.com) — Drivers in Greenville should prepare for a full closure of Airport Road between North Greene Street and Melody Lane from Wednesday through Friday, plus a 14th Street closure near South Pitt Street from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2. These detours come as the city's 2026 Street Rehabilitation and Preservation Project upgrades nearly 40 lane miles, adding resurfacing, ADA ramp work, and new pavement markings across 85 streets.
   

2. Truist bank cutting 253 jobs in eastern NC (reflector.com) — Truist plans to cut 97 jobs in Greenville and 156 in nearby Winterville as it exits a $5.5 billion near-prime auto loan business, with Greenville layoffs slated for July 2027. The bank says affected Regional Acceptance Corporation employees at the Fire Tower Road location will receive severance, job search help, and possible placement in other Truist roles.
   

3. Greenville golf tournament raises money for addiction recovery program (wcti12.com) — Golfers at Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville just wrapped up a charity tournament supporting Hope is Alive Ministries' local recovery home, which provides long-term housing, counseling, and support for people battling addiction. Organizers say the program boasts an 80% success rate among more than 300 graduates, helping many parents rebuild relationships with their children and regain stability.
   

4. Child Passenger Safety Week kicks off in Greenville with free car seat checks, giveaways (witn.com) — Families in Greenville kicked off Child Passenger Safety Week with free car seat checks, new seats for eligible families, and hands-on crash-force demonstrations from certified technicians. Local and state safety experts stressed that most seats are installed incorrectly and urged parents to keep kids in booster seats until seat belts fit properly, with free inspections available year-round across North Carolina.
   

5. MrBeast Responds to Backlash Over $10M Ghana Village Project (memesita.com) — MrBeast's latest $10 million village project in Ghana has sparked online criticism that he should focus more on his hometown of Greenville, where poverty is significantly higher than state and national averages. In response, he highlighted his Beast Pantry in Greenville, which has delivered tens of millions of meals across Eastern North Carolina and represents a major part of his local charitable work.
