Mooresville, Iredell Schools To Remain Open Ahead Of Hurricane
School will be open Wednesday as school officials in Mooresville and Iredell County continue to monitor Hurricane Florence.

MOORESVILLE, NC — Schools will be open in Mooresville and Iredell County Wednesday as school officials continue to monitor the path of Hurricane Florence, school districts announced Tuesday.
As of 2 p.m. Sept. 11, the Category 4 hurricane was located about 845 miles east-southeast of Cape Fear, N.C. with sustained wind speeds of about 130 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
The storm surge along the coastal area ranging from 3 to 12 feet is expected Thursday through Sunday, NC Emergency Management said Tuesday. Further inland, flooding is anticipated in the eastern portion of the state, with rain potential of 15-20 inches. Central North Carolina could see 6-15 inches, NCEM said.

"This storm is a monster," Gov. Roy Cooper told reporters at a news conference Sept. 11. "It’s big and it’s vicious. It is an extremely dangerous, life threatening, historic hurricane."
“Hurricane Florence impacts Friday football but schools still plan to operate on schedule as of today,” Iredell-Statesville schools said in a statement Tuesday. “We will continue to monitor the hurricane and will provide updates routinely.”

Officials at Mooresville Graded School District say they are closely following the forecast and are still planning on operating on a regular schedule throughout the week, but will follow in
